Oceanside Accessory Dwelling Unit Video A Huge Success and leading the field for the new California State Mandate

As the months roll by many more jurisdictions are beginning to wrap their arms around myriad Senate and Assembly bills now requiring them to tailor standards and implement ordnance's   that make it much easier for property/homeowners to add a BACKYARD HOME to their property.

However, many residents and citizens of cities and counties still continue to covet the NIMBY
mentality and swim against the tide that will eventually have its way. So many times we hear residents spew negative slurs about why their neighborhoods should be further impacted by increasing density. They don't want high density development i.e. mixed use mid-rise apartment and condo communities, They don't want new subdivisions. In many cases they don't even want infill development or redevelopment. And now many don't even want their neighbors to build a "granny flat" in their own backyard.

So, where do the folks who deliver your mail, bag your groceries, mow your lawns, teach your children and work in your homes have to live and how far must they commute each day to service your many needs? Housing will not be getting easier anytime soon. It will only become more difficult. It's time we all wake up and embrace the new reality for our lack of affordable housing.

Hello John - thoughtful consideration of this issue will hopefully raise awarness and with that a result that will be better for each of us. Emphasis on the word "hopefully".  Maybe that should be spelled wishfully.

Somehow, I think the NIMBY folks are swimming against the tide.  As land gets scarce, and the cost of building more expensive in California, solutions will be needed.

Yes, Michael Jacobs hopefully it is being embraced more and more everyday as even the NIMBY's are begginning to feel the need for providing housing for so many that truly need it.

You're absolutely spot on Myrl Jeffcoat many NIMBY's are losing this war in Cali. BACKYARD HOMES are sweeping the State in astronomical proportions and giving so many folks not only a wan to reap the financial rewards from their own property but more importantly provide much needed housing for those who really need and appreciate it.

Hi John DL Arendsen How much does Oceanside charge for ADU permits?  I've read that the aversge for the stste is north of $9,000.

Not sure Bill Roberts but they'll be at the Forum in the exhibit room answering Q's. However, I think you're pretty close on your guestimate but more and more jurisdictions are starting to wave fees dramatically. Things are changing as often as you change the sheets on your bed nowadays.
