Finding an unusual amount of foreign cash buyers in your market?

Personally when I hear folks say they think the "Worlds going to Hell in a hand basket" I take pause with a slight whence then a smile and a gleam in my eyes.

Not that I think it's a good thing to see the World in such turmoil but moreover because I'm seeing a lot of off shore $$$ showing up on our shore. Now is that a good or bad thing?

Shortly after America's economy tanked in '08 we started seeing an inordinate amount of real estate and stock investors with boatloads of  $$$ starting to buy up homes, apartments, hotels, resorts, commercial and even industrial properties like crazy. In fact many Chinese investors are even buying up sections of blighted properties in the downtown Detroit area.

If that seems like such a bad thing then maybe you should take a look at what Singapore looked like before China started gentrifying many of their urban

land, sky and nightscape's. Would that be such a bad outcome for Detroit? I mean come on. If the United States Government doesn't have the doe, ray, me to step up why let our Urban areas continue to decay away into oblivion?

Then there's the stock market which even with its own set of circumstances and volatility seems to be about the safest place in the World to put some of your offshore cash.

Doesn't it seem a bit odd that these $Billions$ if not $Trillions$ of  offshore $$$ are allowed to start buying up America yet our government won't allow American companies to repatriate their holdings back home without severe penalties and excessive taxation? Just sayin...........

You provide food for thought, John!  I kind of wonder if foreign money buying up real estate holdings here, won't end up having America being a country of land barons.  But, rather than those barons being American, they are foreign.  Rents are going up.  Our wages have remained stagnant, while workers compete on the global market.

I wish I had perfect answers for these issues.  But, alas, I have none!

No doubt about it Myrl Jeffcoat we will end up with a lot of foreign "land barons". But then isn't that what led to the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence?

I know we have all reverted to some form of cognative dissonence on this subject over the years worried and concerned that we'd be taken over from within first by Russia in the 60's  and now by China and other prosperous offshore Countries.

But the reality was, is and will continue to be America has always been about legal immigration and we've always allowed those who want to come here to contribute, build and prosper the right to do so.

Sadly, however, it will impose some if not many hardships to the citizens who have always been here but have now fallen on the bad times and state of affairs our own government and leaders have left us in.

Thanks for indulging my soapbox. LOL!

And John DL Arendsen Do you remember when the Japanese were buying up America and all our golf  courses? Well, that didn't work out so well for them.

Maybe the Chinese will have a similar experience.

I certainly remember the downtown LA Arco towers and Pebble Beach Bill Roberts I also remember when the Saudies bought up all that $400 gold and drove it up to $800 and sat on it until it started moving up again. Not sure if they really made out to well on that adjusted for inflation. LOL!
