"Small Is Beautiful"

As It Was For

This Mixed Bag of Characters

I thought this title very appropriate given the small quaint yet very thought provoking, motivating and even inspirational group of male misfits that were in attendance at what seems to have become Jeff Dowler CRS  and my quarterly co-hosted tradition during the past few years.

As the title suggests we didn't have a sell out crowd at our "Spring Into Action Active Rain Springtime Meet-up." But it was indeed a very interesting group of folks

In fact when I arrived I went to check in with the hostess to let her know that our party of 8 was waiting  to be seated. She asked me, "which party of 8 might that be Jeff Dowler or John Arendsen?"

Looks like great minds think alike as I turned around and saw two waterfront tables set up right next to each other each with a table setting for 8.  What a hoot that was. Apparently that wasn't a problem, however, as our small group of 5 were one of very few present on the deck top of the Lighthouse Oyster Bar & Grill overlooking the beautiful Oceanside Harbor.

I have to say that "Small Is Beautiful" once again resonated with me. Sure there's a lot of fun in a large group as it's always fun doing some gladhaning and biz card mingling at events and meeting lots new folks. But noting beats a few skulls full of mush getting together and exchanging  some serious and light hearted thought provoking philosophies which was exactly what the five of us did for well over two hours.

As others,  Bill RobertsJon Kolsky, and Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor, who were in attendance for our intimate but informative little confab have stated whence we got our quick real estate exchanges out of the way we got right down to solving all the World's problems. I'm confidant we resolved everything from Google jumping into bed with us at night to global warming and even a little grandchildren rearing.

Interestingly though I don't think politics ever came up and there were no blows thrown, pepper spray, interrupting, talking over one another or terse remarks being bantered about. Just a bunch of guy talk from a small group of folks, many of whom met for the first time yesterday and from a vast array of backgrounds.

Yep, no doubt about it "Small Is Beautiful" in so many meaningful ways and for those of you that have never heard of this book it's truly a great read and even after all these years it's still as thought provoking as when it was first published in 1973. No doubt E.F. Schumacher was a visionary way ahead of his time. It reminded me so much of the group of characters I had the privilege of spending such a beautiful day in a beautiful place with.

Doncha just love AMERICA??!!

Well, Jeff Dowler CRS it's all your fault whence you wandered into Surfer's Point Resort on that beautiful summer day in '07 and asked us if you could do a feature on us.

BTW, after years of having to resubmit most of the 19 entitlements after having had to mothball the project due to the '08 meltdown we're just about ready to reignite that little gem. I'll keep you posted.

Hi John -- it's not always about the size despite what Roger D. Mucci has stated. This sounds like an ideal meet-up -- the weather certainly cooperated.

Michael Jacobs No doubt it was a lot of fun. Frankly I always enjoy a smaller crowd unless it's a Charger game or a Train Concert. LOL!!

It made my day, we have some great people in AR and I'm to have a few of them here, in America's Finest City (of not far from it Jon Kolsky

Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor You're the real deal! Tie and all. Albeit you totally outdressed moi. Of course in these parts an old bathing suie and faded "Old Men Rule" T-shirt with holes in it and a pair of worn out flip flops is about as successful as you can get. LOL!!

I was actually over dressed for success. LMAO! Great meeting you and solving so many World issues. Let's do it again sometime. If you're ever back up this way give me a shout.

Well John DL Arendsen You are getting a lot of mileage out of this meetup, aren't you?

Anyway, I am very glad that we moved it to Oceanside Harbor. It is a real resort area.

Yes, I love America.

Small is indeed beautiful.

No doubt a great time, with good food, a lovely venue and 5 people making rain.

Oh, and what about the "a good time was had by all"? I kinda expected you to say that.

Sometimes it's the smaller groups that allow the ability to have a more intimate experience!  Glad you guys were able to meet-up!

Posted by Myrl Jeffcoat, Greater Sacramento Real Estate Agent (GreatWest Realty) over 2 years ago

Indeed it did rain in Oceanside yesterday Kathleen Daniels . Thanks!

And a good time was had by all!! How's that Bill Roberts ole buddy? Certainly wouldn't want to dissapoint ya. BTW, thanks for suggesting we change the venue. Turned out to be a great location. It's easy to attract guests from the North when it's such a short drive through Camp Pendleton to the beautiful Gateway of San Diego.
